BDP activist says his suspension is “bogus”
The controversial former BAC SRC President and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) activist, Kabelo Mhuriro has vowed to challenge his 60-day suspension from the party by President Ian Khama because it is “bogus.”
Mhuriro, who is on Nonofo Molefhi’s campaign team against Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisis’s camp in the race for BDP Chairmanship, said he challenges anyone with allegations that he made comments that border on tribalism to provide convincing evidence. In the letter addressed to Mhuriro, it is alleged that he behaved in a “grossly disorderly and unruly manner that might put the Party name in disrepute” as well as sow seeds of discord in the Party. He is also accused of using regionalism, tribalism or factionalism and showing contemptuous behaviour towards party leadership and other members.
But Mhuriro retorted, “I am definitely going to challenge the decision, it is bogus, meant only for me to not be a delegate for Tonota elective congress.” He alleged that Mpho Balopi who is aspiring to be party Secretary General and Deputy Secretary and Shaw Kgathi are behind his suspension because he supports Nonofho Molefhi and Botsalo Ntuane in the race for the party’s chairmanship and Secretary General respectively at the July congress.
“To be honest, Kgathi should be the one suspended not me. Going to Tsabong Youth elective congress, he threatened Councillor Tuelo Metseyabeng of which an audio is there. Why is he not yet suspended, let alone brought to book?” wondered Mhuriro. He has consulted Dutch Leburu regarding his suspension this week for legal advice.
